The Federal Capital Territory Administration has allocated ₦3.6 billion for the construction of three divisional police headquarters and staff quarters in Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Kwali Area Councils.
According to Punch reports, Adamu Gwary, Director of the Security Services Department at the FCTA, announced the approval on Thursday while addressing journalists after the first FCT Executive Committee meeting of 2025.
Gwary, a fellow of the Nigerian Defence College, stated that the initiative aligns with efforts to bolster security infrastructure across the FCT. He recalled that in September 2024, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized the need to enhance security, particularly in satellite towns and rural communities.
The minister had earlier directed the construction of two police divisional headquarters in each of the six area councils. So far, nine divisional headquarters have been approved and are near completion.
“At that time, nine were approved, and today, three more have been presented and approved, making it two divisional headquarters in each of the six area councils,” Gwary said.
He explained that the project is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at ensuring effective security coverage for FCT residents.
Gwary reaffirmed that the Wike-led FCTA remains committed to reducing crime, noting that recent security assessments indicate a decline in insecurity indices across the territory.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure that the new infrastructure contributes to tangible improvements in law enforcement.
Meanwhile, Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, disclosed that the Executive Committee reviewed 12 memos during its first meeting of 2025. While some were stepped down or withdrawn, six were approved for implementation, with a primary focus on providing critical infrastructure in the capital territory.
