Hundreds of travelers are currently stranded on the Suleja axis of the Abuja-Kaduna highway in Niger State. The disruption is due to protesters blocking a section of the road, causing a major gridlock.
Abubakar Ibrahim, an Abuja resident traveling to his home state of Kaduna, reported the situation to Daily Trust at approximately 11:40 AM on Thursday. Ibrahim mentioned that the vehicle he boarded had been stuck at the Gauraka junction for over two hours.
“I left Zuba town where I boarded the vehicle before 10 AM, but we have been made to stop here around Gauraka junction where we have spent about two hours. Protesting youths have blocked the highway,” he explained.
The gridlock has extended for several kilometers, spanning from Aluminum Village to the nearby Zuma military barracks. “There are few policemen standing from afar, but they can do nothing about the road block as the number of the youths is beyond their control,” Ibrahim added.
Authorities have yet to comment on the protest or provide a resolution timeline, leaving travelers in a state of uncertainty. The protest underscores ongoing social tensions in the region, affecting daily commutes and interstate travel.
Travelers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes until the situation is calm.
