Tragedy on Ore-Lagos Highway: 28 Burnt to Death in Ondo Auto Crash
A fatal collision on the Ore-Lagos highway in Ondo State has claimed the lives of 28 passengers, who were burnt beyond recognition. The accident occurred at Onipetesi, Odigbo Local Government Area, following a head-on collision between two vehicles according to Vanguard.
Confirming the incident, Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Samuel Ibitoye, revealed that only two passengers survived and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
“The crash was caused by excessive speeding and traffic violations, which led to a head-on collision. Out of 30 passengers, 28 lost their lives tragically,” Ibitoye stated.
The FRSC commander urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads and emphasized the role of passengers in ensuring their safety.
“The contract between drivers and passengers is to ensure safe arrival at their destinations not to drive them to their graves. Passengers must also play a role by cautioning reckless drivers or reporting them to FRSC personnel,” he added.
The remains of the victims have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ore, while the two survivors continue to receive medical care for severe injuries.
Ibitoye assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine further details about the tragic accident.
This incident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
