The Salvation Army Umuahia Corps marked its 2024 Founders’ Day with a grand celebration on July 7th, honoring the legacy of the organization’s founders and their enduring mission to serve humanity. The event, held at the Corps’ headquarters, was attended by members, local dignitaries, and community residents who gathered to celebrate the milestone with fervor and gratitude.
The festivities began with a vibrant procession through the streets of Umuahia, featuring the Salvation Army brass band, colorful band, flag and members dressed in their uniform. The parade symbolized the organization’s journey and commitment to reaching out to the community with love and support. Onlookers cheered as the procession made its way to the Corps’ hall, where the main event was held.
Lt. Prince Umeahaonu, the Corps Officer, delivered a heartfelt opening address, reflecting on the history of the Salvation Army and its founding by William and Catherine Booth in 1865. He highlighted the organization’s unwavering dedication to helping the needy and promoting social justice. “Today, we celebrate not just our founders, but the countless lives transformed by their vision and our ongoing efforts,” Lt. Prince said.
The event featured a variety of performances, including choir renditions of traditional hymns, a drama presentation depicting the founders’ lives, and a dance showcasing the cultural diversity within the Corps. Religious leaders, delivered speeches commending the Salvation Army for its positive impact on the community.
A key highlight of the celebration was the award ceremony, where several members were recognized for their outstanding performance during the quiz competition.
As the celebration came to an end, Lt. Prince expressed gratitude to all participants and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to its mission. “Our founders’ spirit lives on in our actions and our dedication to serving others. Let us continue to work together to make a difference,” he urged.
