The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious gunrunner, Bitrus Gyang, and the recovery of 20 fabricated AK-47 rifles. Gyang, hailing from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State, confessed to being involved in illegal arms trafficking during interrogation.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, on Friday in Kaduna.
According to the statement made available to The Cable, on September 19, around 4:00 p.m., officers from the Buruku Division in Chikun Local Government Area, while conducting a routine patrol at Buruku Bridge, intercepted a black Golf III saloon car. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, officers discovered 20 locally made AK-47 rifles and an empty type 06 magazine concealed in the car’s boot.
Hassan further revealed that the suspect had previously transported similar fabricated weapons on at least three occasions and is currently cooperating with the police to identify and apprehend his accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, commended the officers for their diligence and reassured the public that efforts to combat kidnappers and bandits would intensify, leaving no room for criminal activities across the state.
