The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately swear in Sunday Ude Okoye as the party’s substantive National Secretary. This follows a declarative judgment by the Enugu High Court, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal, according to Vanguard.
The directive was contained in a communiqué issued after an emergency BoT meeting at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. The BoT chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, who read the communiqué, stated that the board thoroughly examined the matter before reaching its decision
The board also reviewed and adopted the recommendations of a committee led by former Minister of Special Duties, Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), which examined the legal disputes between Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye over the National Secretary position.
However, Anyanwu has rejected the BoT’s directive, arguing that the matter remains in court. He also questioned the legitimacy of the meeting, claiming that the tenure of about 80% of the BoT members who attended had expired in October 2024.
Wabara emphasized the BoT’s constitutional role as the PDP’s conscience, citing Section 13(1)(r) and Section 32(5)(a) of the party’s 2017 amended constitution, which
