The Libya Football Federation (LFF) has responded to complaints from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) about the Super Eagles being stranded at Al Abraq International Airport for over 12 hours ahead of their 2025 AFCON qualifier. The LFF expressed regret but denied negligence, stating that the flight’s diversion was due to air traffic control protocols, not a deliberate disruption. Reported by Legit.
#caf
“The diversion to Al Abraq Airport was beyond our control. Libya’s airspace is under strict regulations due to security concerns, and air traffic control made the decision as a precaution,” the LFF stated. They clarified that arrangements had been made to receive the Nigerian team in Benghazi, but the diversion complicated logistics.
The NFF had expressed frustration over the lack of immediate assistance, claiming that the Libyan federation did not provide transportation or support at Al Abraq. Some Super Eagles players considered boycotting the match due to fatigue, though NFF officials have since urged the team to stay focused.
The LFF appealed for understanding, emphasizing that Libya’s security situation complicates hosting international events. “We are committed to providing the best possible conditions for the match and hope for cooperation and understanding,” they concluded.
The match remains on schedule, with both teams seeking vital points in their AFCON qualification campaign. The LFF has promised to ensure smoother arrangements for the Nigerian team’s stay in Benghazi.
