It is often said that the reward for good work is more work, and success is not a destination but a step to another achievement. Indeed, it is soul-stirring when you are accepted and recognized among your people. Our people say “Igwe bu Ike” (unity is strength), and one who has the full endorsement of his community will not only fly but travel far.
During the August Iri Ji Festival of Isuochi, one of the major highlights was the conferment of chieftaincy titles to distinguished members of society. The Iri Ji Festival, a celebration of the new yam harvest, is not only a time for communal festivities but also a period for recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the community.
A High Honour Bestowed on Dr Oluebube A. Chukwu, in recognition of modest contributions to advancing the cause of humanity, especially through The Oluebube A. Chukwu Foundation (OACF), the High Chieftaincy title of UGOCHITUBEREM NKE MBU NA ISUOCHI was conferred by the revered Isuochi Chieftaincy Institution. This title, which translates to “The Eagle Bestowed on Me by God,” is a profound honour, reflecting both the pride and responsibilities it brings.
As it is in nature of Dr. Oluebube to avoid the limelight, he answered the call of HRM Eze Sir (Dr.) G. I. Ezekwesiri, DBA, OFG, KJW, JP, the paramount head of Isuochi Ancient Kingdom, and the Ochi-in-Council on August 4, 2024, to receive this recognition. The ceremony was a grand affair, attended by dignitaries, community members, and well-wishers, all gathered to celebrate this significant event.
As an advocate of humanitarian services targeted at rural areas, marginalized individuals, and underserved communities, this title is not just an accolade but an emblem of OACF commitment to rendering more people-oriented and developmental projects. The Oluebube A. Chukwu Foundation has been at the forefront of various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for many, particularly those in rural and underserved areas.
The foundation’s work spans multiple sectors, including health, environmental management and sustainability, education, economic empowerment, and infrastructural development. By providing free medical services, improving educational facilities, and offering skill acquisition programs, the foundation has made tangible impacts on the lives of countless individuals.
A community, like a garden, is nothing without nurturers and compassionate caretakers. This belief is deeply embedded in the work we do at OACF. Our projects are designed not just to provide immediate relief but to foster long-term growth and self-sufficiency. By empowering individuals and communities, we aim to create a ripple effect that will bring about sustained development.
Receiving the title of UGOCHITUBEREM NKE MBU NA ISUOCHI is a humbling experience, reminding Chief Oluebube Chukwu of the collective strength and support of his communities. It is this unity and shared purpose that drive our efforts and amplify our impact.
Reflecting on this journey, Dr Chukwu filled with gratitude for the recognition and support from his communities. “If a place of origin were to be chosen again, l would still be a proud son of Isuochi, the values and lessons I have learned here have shaped my approach to life and service,” he said.
The conferment ceremony was more than a personal milestone; it was a celebration of community spirit and the power of collective effort. The presence of HRM Eze Sir (Dr.) G. I. Ezekwesiri and the Ochi-in-Council, along with the joyful participation of the Isuochi people, underscored the importance of this occasion.
While this recognition is deeply gratifying, it also comes with a renewed sense of responsibility. The title of UGOCHITUBEREM NKE MBU NA ISUOCHI is a call to continue and expand our work, addressing the pressing needs of our communities and exploring new avenues for development.
Our future initiatives will focus on deepening our impact in existing areas while also exploring new opportunities for growth. We plan to enhance our health outreach programs, environmental sanitation programs, expand our educational support initiatives, and develop more comprehensive economic empowerment strategies.
One of our key priorities will be to strengthen partnerships with local leaders, international organizations, and volunteers who share our vision. Collaboration has been a cornerstone of our success, and we believe that by working together, we can achieve even greater things.
The Iri Ji Festival provided a perfect backdrop for this celebration. The festival, which marks the end of the farming season and the beginning of the harvest, is a time of joy, thanksgiving, and community bonding. It was a fitting occasion to honour those who have contributed to the growth and prosperity of the community.
During the festival, the streets of Isuochi were alive with vibrant colours, traditional music, and dance. The air was filled with the aroma of freshly harvested yams, prepared in various traditional dishes. It was a time for families and friends to come together, share (local delicacies and palm wine), and celebrate their shared heritage.
The chieftaincy conferment ceremony was a highlight of the festival, drawing attention to the importance of recognizing and celebrating those who dedicate their lives to the service of others. As Oluebube Chukwu received the title of UGOCHITUBEREM NKE MBU NA ISUOCHI, he felt a profound sense of connection to my roots and a renewed commitment to his mission.
The impact of The Oluebube A. Chukwu Foundation is best understood through the voices of those we serve. During the festival, was the opportunity to speak with many community members who shared their stories and experiences which was massive.
As we look to the future, our focus will be on scaling our impact and reaching more communities. We are committed to developing innovative solutions that address the root causes of poverty and inequality. By leveraging technology, forming strategic partnerships, and engaging with communities, we aim to create sustainable change.
One of our upcoming projects is the establishment of a community resource center that will provide training, resources, and support for local entrepreneurs and small businesses. This center will serve as a hub for economic development, offering access to information, technology, and networks that can help individuals and businesses thrive.
We also plan to expand our health outreach programs to include more comprehensive services such as maternal and child health, mental health support, and chronic disease management. By addressing these critical areas, we hope to improve overall health outcomes and quality of life in rural areas.
The conferment of the chieftaincy title of UGOCHITUBEREM NKE MBU NA ISUOCHI is not just an honour for Oluebube A Chukwu, but a call to action for all of us. It is a reminder that we each have a role to play in building a better world. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, every effort counts.
We invite you to join us on this journey. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that every child has access to education, every individual has the opportunity to succeed, and every community can thrive.
As we move forward, we will continue to uphold the values of compassion, integrity, and service that have guided us thus far. With the support of our community and partners, we are confident that we can achieve our vision of a world where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The Iri Ji Festival and the conferment of the chieftaincy title of UGOCHITUBEREM NKE MBU NA ISUOCHI have been defining moments in our journey. They have reaffirmed our commitment to serving humanity and strengthened our resolve to continue making a positive impact.
As we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, we’re inspired to forge ahead, guided by the principles of unity, compassion, and service. The journey is far from over, but with the unwavering support from our communities and the grace of God, we’re confident that we will soar to even greater heights.
In the words of our ancestors, “Igwe bu Ike.” Together, we are strong. Together, we can achieve anything. Thank you for being part of this journey, and we look forward to the many milestones we will celebrate together in the future.
