Governor Alex Otti, OFR, has assigned portfolios to the newly appointed commissioners in Abia State, following their swearing in. This marks a new chapter for the state’s executive council, reflecting the Governor’s commitment to aligning his team with his administration’s goals. Additionally, a minor reshuffle was carried out within the cabinet, and a few new ministries were created to address specific needs in the state.

Key Appointments:
Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. With a background in law and a track record of legal acumen, Mr. Uwanna is expected to strengthen the state’s judicial framework, ensuring justice is accessible and swift.
Prince Uzo Nwachukwu, Honourable Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs. His portfolio will involve managing relationships with local governments and traditional institutions, crucial for maintaining grassroots development and cultural preservation.
Mr. Uwaoma Ukandu, Honourable Commissioner for Finance. Given the state’s financial challenges, his role will be pivotal in managing resources efficiently and driving fiscal policies that promote economic stability and growth.
Mr. Kingsley Anosike, Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Planning. His expertise will be essential in crafting budgets that align with the state’s development goals and ensuring that all ministries operate within their financial limits.
Mr. Okey Kalu, Honourable Commissioner for Information, tasked with handling the state’s communication and public relations strategies. His role will involve ensuring that the government’s activities and achievements are effectively communicated to the public.
Mr. Goodluck Ubochi, Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education. He will oversee the implementation of educational policies aimed at improving the quality of education across the state’s primary and secondary schools.
Prof. Uche Eme Uche, Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education. With his academic background, he is well-positioned to advance higher education in Abia State, focusing on improving academic standards and infrastructure.
Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, Honourable Commissioner for Health. He will be responsible for improving healthcare delivery and ensuring access to quality medical services for all residents.
Dr. Mrs. Maureen Ijeoma Aghukwa, Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs. She will focus on empowering women, advocating for gender equality, and addressing issues affecting women in the state.
Mrs. Blessing Ngozi Felix, Honourable Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection. She will address the socio-economic challenges faced by the state’s vulnerable populations.
Mr. Philemon A. Ogbonna, Honourable Commissioner for Environment. His role will involve addressing environmental issues and implementing policies to promote sustainability.
Prof. Joel F. Ogbonna, Honourable Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources. He will oversee the state’s natural resources, ensuring they contribute to economic development.
Mr. Kingsley Chibueze Nwokocha, Honourable Commissioner for Trade & Commerce. He will promote business growth and foster a conducive environment for trade.
Mr. Mike Akpara, Honourable Commissioner for Industry & SMEs. He will focus on industrial development and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.
Mr. Nwaobilor Ananaba, Honourable Commissioner for Youth & Sports. His portfolio will involve developing youth programs and promoting sports as a tool for unity and development.
Mr. Mathew Ekwuruibe, Honourable Commissioner for Arts, Culture & Creative Economy. He will be responsible for promoting Abia’s rich cultural heritage and supporting the creative industries.
Mr. David Kalu, Honourable Commissioner for Science, Technology & Innovation. He will drive technological advancements and innovation within the state.
Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, Honourable Commissioner for Lands & Housing. He will manage land resources and housing development.
Engr. Don Otumchere Oti, Honourable Commissioner for Works. He will oversee infrastructure development and maintenance.
Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, Honourable Commissioner for Transport. He will focus on improving transportation networks and systems across the state.
Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, Honourable Commissioner for Power & Public Utilities. He will work to enhance power supply and public utility services.
Comrade Sunny A. Onwuma, Honourable Commissioner for Labour & Productivity. He will focus on labour relations and improving productivity in the state workforce.
