Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, on Thursday, 12th September, visited Benin City, the Edo State capital, to drum up support for the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Barr. Olumide Akpata, and his running mate, Prince Yusulf Asamah Kadiri.
Speaking to a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters who gathered to welcome him and the Labour Party team, Governor Otti emphasized that his visit was to affirm the decision already made by the people of Edo.
“The reason we came is to reinforce the decision you have already made because I know that you have taken a decision already. And I believe the decision you have made is to vote for Olumide Akpata and Kadiri. Your decision is the best,” Governor Otti stated.
He further remarked that Edo State is too significant to be left in the hands of leaders in conflict. “They will be fighting, and then we come under and take what belongs to us,” he said.
Governor Otti also urged the electorate to protect their votes after casting them for the Labour Party. “I have a challenge for all of you, especially the young ones. On the 21st of September, after voting where you see ‘Mama, Papa, and Pikin,’ you must stay behind to protect your votes. The rat cannot steal from a man who is awake. You must be vigilant,” he advised.
He assured the crowd that their votes would be protected at the polling units and urged them to ensure the right results are announced. “Some people are asking if we will protect your votes. Of course, we will protect your votes. But you must first protect it at the polling units and make sure the correct results are announced. Then, leave the rest to us,” Otti added.
Governor Otti reaffirmed Labour Party’s commitment to improving the lives of Edo citizens, mirroring the progress being made in Abia State. “We are here for serious business. There is a template that Labour Party has, and it’s the same template we are using in Abia that Olumide Akpata will implement in Edo. That template is about the people, not about the big men,” he explained.
Joining Governor Otti on the campaign trail were Sen. Darlington Nwaokocha, Secretary of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee; Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Chief of Staff to the Governor; Hon. Iheanacho Obioma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs; Sir Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; and other key aides.
