Chelsea’s preparations for their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Brighton and Hove Albion are in full swing, with the squad back at Cobham ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Amex Stadium. This fixture marks the first of two consecutive meetings with the Seagulls, and several Blues players will be returning to familiar territory.
According to Chelsea’s official website, Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, who spent a decade at Brighton after joining their academy at 15, will return to his former home. Defender Levi Colwill also has ties to the club, having spent the 2022/23 season on loan there. Midfielder Moisés Caicedo and full-back Marc Cucurella also previously played for Brighton before making their moves to Stamford Bridge.
Cucurella, who has impressed this season, spoke highly of Caicedo after his standout performance in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over West Ham United on Monday night. “He is very important,” said Cucurella. “I knew him at Brighton as well. He’s relaxed, hard-working, and a key piece for us. His first games here were tough, but he worked hard and now deserves these moments.
Chelsea’s training session began in the gym before the players moved onto the pitches, where a new face was settling into his surroundings. French midfielder Mathis Amougou, who joined from Saint-Étienne earlier this week, took part in his first session with the squad.
“I’m very happy,” Amougou said after completing his move. “It’s an honour to sign for such a big club like Chelsea. They believe in young players, and their development process is fantastic.”
Head coach Enzo Maresca led the session as the team builds towards Saturday’s match. He will hold his pre-match press conference tomorrow, which will be available to watch live on Chelsea’s official website and app.
